DoTERRA Essential Oils Review
DoTERRA is one of the most well-known companies out there that create and distribute essential oils as well as make their own proprietary oil blends. But DoTERRA doesn’t just offer essential oils; they are experts in everything that has to do with nutrition, spa products and healthy living. The company believes in a comprehensive wellness plan for each customer and they are an MLM, which means that you can only buy their products from what they call a wellness adviser – that is their representative who sells the products in the field and earns a commission. Although some of these representatives sell products based on referrals or door-to-door, many of them simply set their items essential oils up for sale up in a shop, kiosk or another retail space.
DoTERRA Company History
DoTERRA has been around since 2008, which isn’t long compared to a couple of the essential oil companies that we feature here. However, they have still grown in that short time to be possibly the world’s biggest MLM essential oils company with tens of thousands of representatives all over the country. They have an international presence as well. The company started when a group of business people and healthcare professionals come together and talked about what kind of benefits they were getting from essential oils. They all had an idea of bringing the best essential oils to the market at large and to help people who were new to essential oils get started. The company started with just 25 oils and 10 proprietary blends. Almost immediately, people could see that these were high-quality products and that the company was going to do well.
DoTERRA Manufacturing Process
When it comes to the manufacturing process, DoTERRA guarantees that their oils are going to be the safest and the most beneficial. They do this by having an in-house chemist team check the oils. The goal is to get verified as ‘pure therapeutic grade’ so that they can be sold. This requires that the oil for the plant that it is based upon meet certain requirements. For example, the oil must be completely natural and pure, have no artificial ingredients and no fillers, undiluted, the chemical composition tested thoroughly, free of pesticides, chemical residue and tested with mass spectrometry and gas chromatography to make sure that each and every bottle is completely pure.
DoTERRA Essential Oils Selection
The selection of essential oils that DoTERRA offers is pretty small in comparison to some of the other brands that are out there. If you’re determined to go with DoTERRA, you will probably find most of the popular ones but you may not be able to find some of the rarer oils – which often offer unique benefits that no other essential oil does. When it comes to the regular essential oils, DoTERRA offers a selection of 42 which is quite a bit less than the selection offered by Eden’s Garden, Starwest and Young Living. The company also has 19 different proprietary blends and among them you may find some unique ones that you won’t find with other manufacturers.
DoTERRA Purity of Essential Oils
DoTERRA essential oils are definitely some of the most pure essential oils out there. According to DoTERRA’s website, the oils that they produce are first checked by their in-house laboratory and subjected to rigorous testing. The oils are then sent out to a third party laboratory which does additional testing, confirming the results of the first lab analysis. This ensures that every bottle of essential oils that goes out is as pure and beneficial as can be. The oils are certified pure therapeutic grade which are the safest oils that you can buy. CPTG oils are tested for chemical composition and using technology like mass spectrometry and gas chromatography, as well as being free from artificial ingredients or fillers and free of pesticides and contaminants as well.
DoTERRA probably has the best designed website of all of the essential oil companies that are featured here. They have a terrific color scheme with mustard yellow offset by a black background and an easy-to-navigate menu that gives you information on them as a company, the products that they sell and becoming a member, as well as giving you the ability to switch languages if you need to. The graphics, pictures and text are all easy-to-read and the pages are a snap to navigate through, with instant response times. The slider on the homepage explains why you should be using essential oils and how you can use DoTERRA’s essential oils.
DoTERRA Essential Oils Price
When it comes to the price, it was difficult to determine. That is, unless you are willing to become a distributor and then buy the products wholesale. DoTERRA essential oils are only sold by what they call wellness advocates. Those are distributors that are buying the products from the company at wholesale price and then selling them to people, either in a retail store or with the direct sales approach. However, with a little more research, we found that bergamot essential oil is priced about the same for retail as Miracle and Young Living. They charge around $37 for 15 mL so just over two dollars per milliliter. It is rumored that distributors buy wholesale for 30% off of that price.
What about the online reputation of DoTERRA? This is another area where it gets sticky because people often post about DoTERRA because of some problem that they have had with a product or person, but are actually posting about the distributor they went through. For example, if a distributor took in an order but didn’t get the product to the customer for a whole week, someone might be compelled to go online and post a negative review of DoTERRA but it would actually be the distributor who was at fault for not ordering quickly enough. However, you can be assured that DoTERRA is not a scam.
DoTERRA Customer Service
Of course, if you have to order from a distributor – or wellness advocate – then you probably are going to have a hard time getting customer service right? You can get customer service from your wellness advocate in most cases. But if you can’t, DoTERRA provides you with a number that you can call during regular business hours and get answers to your questions. This is for people who don’t have a distributor perhaps, or who want to become distributors. It is also for customers who have a problem that they can handle at the distributor level.
DoTERRA Overview of Customer Reviews
For the most part, reviews have been very good for DoTERRA essential oils. Most of the people out there have had a really positive experience with DoTERRA essential oil. There may be some negative information out there about DoTERRA, but when you look at the customer reviews, you notice that most of them are happy and the ones that aren’t are to be isolated incidents instead of a pattern that would show a company to be untrustworthy. Even people that have been distributors for DoTERRA have posted good reviews. There are some bad reviews out there for people who may not have had much success as a distributor (wellness advocate) but for the most part, things are positive.
The Final Word on DoTERRA
So, should you go with DoTERRA essential oil? The real question is whether or not you can find a distributor that can help you get the essential oils that you want and advise you on what you need. If you just want to buy oils without any hassle you may want to go with a different company that sells them but there are reasons to go with DoTERRA as well – the quality, reliability and the customer service that you get after the sale are all factors you have to take into consideration when deciding whether or not to go with DoTERRA. The choice is yours, but this company is definitely recommended.
