Using Around the Home

For those planning to use geranium essential oil topically, it is advisable to always conduct a skin patch test at least twenty-four hours before your first application. This is to help you determine how your skin is likely to react to the oil, allowing you to rule out the possibility of an allergic reaction or other adverse effect. To conduct a patch test, rub a small amount of the oil onto an area of your inner arm. In general, geranium essential oil does not require dilution to use topically, however if you suffer from sensitive skin or are using the oil with children or infants, you should dilute it by one-part oil to three-parts water.

Geranium essential oil is suitable for use during pregnancy with the approval of a health professional such as a midwife or OBGYN.
